What is the purpose of classifying people into races? From a historical perspective, what functions did this have in US society? Which aspects of social ideas of race are static? Which are dynamic? Why should we expect ideas and practices associated with racial classification to change over time? 200 OWN WORDS
Race refers to classifying people of this world depending on their biological similarities but later it was misused by relating it to the intelligence and skin colour superiority. It was used as a discriminating factor in the United States because people were treated and allowed to function differently in the American Society based on their races. The biological idea about race seems to be static but it is also changing now-a-days with all the races living and mixing together thus creating the need for reclassification of races. The mind-set about race is very dynamic because people, as they live together learn, understand, experience and accept other races as equal and important. This is very evident from the American Society that changed from a strictly White race country into a more tolerant and understanding nation today by including and integrating people of colour into the mainstream society. This is very important for a society to function effectively. The global business scenario has changed the world a lot and it has brought sea of changes. The technological and transportation advancement along with the immigration of people have started creating pluralistic and multi-cultural society which would further improve the societies.
