Green Building Rating system preferred for Homes -LEED, developed by U S green Building Council (USGBC) in March 2000, is an internationally-recognized green building certification system. LEED provides a framework to building owners, executioners and operators for identifying and implementing practical ,measurable and sustainable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions.

LEED green building rating  system emphasizes on the benchmarking scheme and credit rating scheme to level of certification award. It is the most widely used GBRS.

The LEED measures and rates the overall performance of the building in seven categories.

1. Sustainable Sites.

2. Energy & Atmosphere

3. Materials & Resources

4. Water Efficiency

5. Waste Management

6. Environmental Quality (Indoor)

7. Regional Priority .

LEED green rating system is also  the base system for the development of other country rating systems.   LEED rating is applicable to new construction, existing buildings, commercial interiors, core and shell, homes, schools, hospitals, etc.

Building Owners should prefer LEED Rating certification as it is the leading program for sustainable building design and construction. Attaining LEED certification in Building Industry demonstrates environmentally responsible building practices. This can be a big boost for the image of a building owner who designs and/or constructs LEED-certified buildings. LEED-certified projects can help a builder become recognized as a leader in the construction industry.

Apart from public relations, LEED certification can carry significant advantages . For example, the USGBC states, “LEED buildings have faster lease-up rates and may qualify for a host of incentives like tax rebates and zoning allowances. Not to mention they retain higher property values,” attracting more commercial construction companies to the field. For residential construction companies, LEED certification can help in selling  homes faster and for a higher price.
