cognitive behavioral therapies provides for use of a wide range of techniques. What techniques might apply you apply to yourself? What techniques are you likely to incorporate in your work with clients?

Cognitive Behavioral therapies aim in changing the manner in which the thoughts of a person would be affected, along with helping the client get rid of their difficulties. It is required that the clients would be identifying as well as dealing with their thoughts that come out as a result of emotions. Techniques that are useful are:

  • Thought records: these would be designed for testing the thoughts validity. After the objective evidences are looked into, the process behind this technique aims at balancing the thoughts. These would be helping a person change their thoughts at a level that is logical.
  • Scheduling of pleasant activity: this is a technique that is more useful in depression. This might be in the form of reading novels or eating lunch. Alternative versions would be to schedule one activity every day so that there would be a sense of being a master at the same.
  • Imagery based exposure: this is the technique in which a recent memory would be brought up. This is in the form of a negative image. The idea is to realise the emotions that surround the image and to control the emotions, such that anger or negative thoughts would come down to half the initial level.
