You’ve been hired by Central Hospital for your first job as a phlebotomist. You start next Monday, but first you need to read the employee handbook, which includes a description of personal characteristics for the successful phlebotomist. Dependability? Check—you’ve been holding down a steady job for more than 2 years. Positive attitude? Check—your nickname at the warehouse is “Can do.” Professional appearance? Uh-oh—no piercings, no visible tattoos, no artificial nails. You’ve got them all.

When Monday rolls around, what should you do? Forget about the job? Tell your supervisor, “This is me—deal with it”? What would you do? Why?

ANSWER =

As per the recent study ,it is found that nearly half of the patients like or prefer their doctor in traditional attire like white coat ,well dressed as it influenced patient satisfaction .

Many hospitals have tried to control ,other aspects of caregiver visual presentation like body piercing ,tattoes ,artifical nails etc . They have a section in their employee handbook regarding tattoing, piercing and artificial nails ,they sometimes give job to those doctor or healthcare workers who doesnot have any piercing .

May be it was because of their official policy regarding tattoo on work place . In general, however most medical facilites apply minor restrictions that only prohibits excessive and / or offensive tattoo . As tattoo are widely accepted ,yet prejudices still exist and law is with employee.

As their is no national law ,regarding tattoo in health care profession , these employee handbook laws varies from hospital to hospitals ,most of the hospitals are ok with small tattos as long as its not offensive .

non visible tattoo are almost always allowed . facial tattoo with offencive message may cause problem , as it is true that having a tatto may limit your job options in medical profession .

if your work place has an official policy of no visible tattoo , then its logical that they won't give you the job ,if you have any visible tatto that goes against their employee policy so i will suggest if you want to work at that hospitals ,familiarize yourself with the rules of hospitals.
