Expert Solution

A flex fuel car if a vehicle which is an alternative fuel vehicle with an internal combustion engine designed to run on more than one fuel.

Flex fuel vehicles looks like regular vehicles but they run on either gas or E85 which is a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline.

Flex fuels are cheaper than regular fuel and there is a steady supply of raw materials. Ethanol is the main content which is an anti freeze component. It is having less carbon footprint and is cost efficient. On the other hand, flex fuels have disadvantages of being not eco-friendly and may cause corrosion. It could create damage for engine and hike in the price of commodities and have a less fuel economy.

E85 is the abbreviated form referring to an ethanol fuel blend of 85% ethanol fuel and 15% of gasoline or other hydrocarbon by volume. The United States became the world's largest producer of ethanol. It is mainly used as an oxygenate in gasoline in the form of low-level blends and as fuel for flex fuel vehicles. Ethanol industries provided jobs in agriculture, construction, operations and maintenance. Thus making the energy more independent.

Corn could not be used instead of ethanol as a replacement.
