2. Which particular unit does the following final product come from

a. gasoline

b. jet fuel

c. candle wax

d. naphtha

3. where does the refinery get their water from and how do they handle water disposal?

4. how do they process their chemical waste disposal?

Solutions

Expert Solution

1. The main feed of both FOB and LOB is crude oil.

(FOB)Fuel Oil Block deals with production and processing of fuel oil products OR Fuel Oil Block is the unit that takes the imported crude oil from storage andperforms the initial separation of broad components in an atmospheric distillation column.

The product components of FOB are LPG, Petrol, Kerosene, Diesel, and Furnace Oil.

In (LOB)Lube Oil Block the reduced crude oil from the Atmospheric Distillation Unit(ADU) is processed.

The product components of LOB are lube base stock, slack wax, transfer oil feedstock(TOFS) etc.

2.

a. gasoline- atmospheric distillation unit

b. jet fuel- atmospheric distillation unit

c. candle wax- vaccum distillation unit

d. napthta- atmospheric distillation unit

3. As you mostly notice that most of the refineries are situated near the sea so they mostly ues sea water or they uses river water also. The main use of water in refinery that it acts as a coolant and as a steam.

After uses the water contain many organic particles so many refineries use activated carbon to extract all these organic particles from water and which can be used again and again. Several other methods are also used to reduce these organic impurites like sedimentation, filtration etc.

4. After recycling very little amount of disposal waste is left so refineries  process their chemical waste disposal mainly by

-BIO-DEGRADATION

-INCINERATION

-LANDFILL
