Welcome to Discussion 6.2! This week we’ll reflect on groups we may have joined throughout the years. In doing so, we’ll apply our knowledge of groups and organizations. For our discussion, please address the following:
Define “groups” and “organizations.”
Share an example of a group you have joined (sports team, study group, support group).
What benefits do you see in group membership?
What is the difference between a voluntary and an involuntary group?
Reply substantively to at least two post.
A group is collective things or people gathered at one time and at one place. Organisation is a group of people working together for common goal eg, tax companies, IT companies etc. A group may or may not have common interest but organisation do have. A group as suggested can be collective people eg, people of a particular apartment gathered at one time and place - they would have no common goal whereas people gathered in church forming a group have certain goal, or people of people which do activities such mountaineering, helping poor hands have certain common attitude.
Group membership have lot of benefits, usually people who tend to have common interest form group. Hence activities done in such groups are usually enjoyed by the members of the group. Their wavelengths also matches. Eg. Rotary group, Lion's club etc.
Voluntary group participation is by the choice of the person whereas involuntary group participation is not by the choice. Usually voluntary groups come together to do some common activity such as need to change the society, helping poor people. Involuntary group example may be a family.
