Here in the healthcare class, give me details of following
Research the evolution of hospitals in the U.S. What has led to the expansion as well as the downsizing of hospitals across the U.S.? Do you believe that downsizing can be avoided based on the information you found in your research? Why or why not?
In the beginning of 19th century there were no hospitals in U.S. The people were usually be treated at home with simple remedies. Even surgery took place at home. Then formal clinic settings were formed. In the late 19th century, hospitals began to emerge.
Now there are different types of hospitals such as Government or municipal hospitals ( hospitals that are funded primarily by the government), Private hospitals (funded largely by donors and the wealthy), Independent hospitals ( hospitals that are run without a group board of directors who implement policies), Network of hospitals ( A group of hospitals that are run by one governing board and implement the same practice and policies).
Medicare and Medicaid indirectly started to fund hospitals. This leds to the expansion of hospitals.
The factors that led to hospital downsizing are changes In reimbursement, growth In Managed care, and hospital closures.
Due to the decrease in the hospital budget, the downsizing of staff is becoming increasingly common in hospitals. This will affect the overall work environment, their individual health and the quality of the care they were delivering during a period of hospital downsizing. So the quality of care decreases.
So to avoid the downsizing maintain a strategic plan of budget, maintain a good managed care, conduct staff welfare programs. The overall satisfaction of health care workers leds to good working environment and expansion of hospitals.
