Calculate the total foot board measure and calculate the total cost for furnishing and installing the following pieces of dimensional lumber:

a. 270 – 2 x 4 – 8’0” 550 – 2 x 6 – 16’0” 1,820 – 2 x 4 – 12’0” 500 – 2 x12 – 16’0”

b. Productivity Rate: Lumber - 15 crew-hrs/MBFM

c. Crew’s Wage Rate: $26.75/wk-hr

d. Material Costs: Lumber - $550/MBFM

TOTAL BOARD REQUIRED BFM -?

TOTAL MATERIAL COST $ LS - ?

CREW HOURS REQUIRED HRS -?

TOTAL LABOR COST $ LS -?

TOTAL COST $ LS - ?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Step 1: Total Board Feet measure (BFM) and MBFM (Thousand Board feet measure) of lumber:

1 Board feet = 1 ft x 1 ft x 1 in

Hence,

Total BFM = 1440 + 8800 + 14560 + 16000 = 40,800 BFM

Total MBFM = 40,800/1000 = 40.8 MBFM

Step 2: Calcualtion of required crew hours:

Given Data,

· Productivity Rate: Lumber - 15 crew-hrs /MBFM

· Total quantity = 40.8 MBFM

Required crew hours = 15 x 40.8 = 612.00 Crew hours

Step 3: Cost Estimate of Lumbers:

You're considering installing a 4-foot-high by 8-foot-wide picture window in a north-facing wall (no solar gain) that now has a total R (specific thickness of material) value of 23. As a compromise between initial cost and energy savings, you've chosen a standard double-glazed window with the value of R is 2.0. As a result of installing this window, how much more oil will you burn in a 6-month winter heating season with an average outdoor temperature of 25F and an...
