In order from least to most water-soluble rank the following C6H6, CH3, CH3CH2OH, CH3OHO.
For that first you have to know some facts regarding solubility-
1) Polar dissolves in polar solvent , which means in water on compounds having polarity like because of OH groups compounds dissolves in water.
2) These compounds having OH group dissolves in water because oh H- bonding between water and OH group.
3 ) Now in the carbon chain having covalent bond is hydrophobic in nature. So, the more bigger the chain is the more there will be the hydrophobic nature.
4) which means in among the soluble compounds with Oh group are the most soluble which is having lower carbon chain
And have more carbon chain will have less solubility.
CH3OH will bethe most soluble compounds among the given.
And CH3CH2OH will be the second highest.
5) Now among non soluble C6H6 will be the lowest aand CH4(there is no such compound CH3 It must be CH4) will be the second lowest soluble compound among the given.
So the order should be
CH3OH > CH3CH2OH > CH3 > C6H6.
