Karen Horney and Erickon, both are Neo Freaudion, whose work followed Freud's but they disagreed on the over emphasis on sex and focused more of environmenta and cultral factors in the development of an individual.
Horney emphasised on social and cultural factors in the development of an individual. People who do not have their need of love and afection satisfied during childhool develop basic hostility toward their parents and eventuall basic anxiety.
She suggested people combat basic anxiety through three styles-
a) Moving towards people
b) Moving against people
c) Moving away from people
Neurotic behaviour is the result of intraspsychic conflect and leads to idealizes self image or self hatered.
Erickson's stage of psychosocial development suggests 8 stages of development
1) Hope- from age 0 to4
2)Will- from age2 to4
3)Purpose- from age 4 to 15
4)Competence-5 to 12
5)Fedility- 13to 19
6)Love- 20 to 39
7)Care-40 to 64
8)wisdom- 65 plus
