identify a theory that you plan to use in developing the intervention for the program to reduce caridovasuclar disease and back problems.. Explain why you chose the theory, and why you think it is a good fit for the problem you are addressing
Ans: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of death all over the world. Despite significant improvements in treatment and prevention, deaths due to CVD have not subsided. Successful management of CVD is essential not only for treating specific disease but also for preventing risk factors for CVD such as diabetes, dyslipidemia, and hypertension. Chronic back pain is also prevalent in many countries. Severe back pain can be very debilitating. There are several interventions available to help people overcome cardiovascular disease and back problems. However, due to certain circumstances, low levels of adherence, attitudes toward medical expenditures, these interventions are not always successful.
Among such several interventions are some interventions based on social cognitive theory and cognitive behavioral approach. These theories promote health behavior change techniques to improve adherence to interventions.
The social cognitive theory if applied in health settings has the potential to influence and change the health behavior of patients. By observing other patients and learning from their experience, patients can work towards bringing about changes in their own health behavior. Social cognitive theory can be useful in improving CVD intervention as it may help in increasing smoking cessation, improving physical activity, and lowering lipid levels. Similarly, for improving back problems, social cognitive theory-based education programs can do wonders. It can surely improve pain-related functional impairment of individuals. Social cognitive theory can surely improve the intervention for the program to overcome cardiovascular disease and back problems.
