Despite having some of the most acidic precipitation ever recorded (acid fog), explain why the southwestern US doesn’t have as much problem with acid rain as the northeast.
*Acid rain is caused by emission of SO2 and NOx in large quantities mainly by burning of coal.
*Aluminium is present in large amount in northeast US as compared to southwestern US parts which is the major problem for various trees species like red maple ,sugar maple which is present in northeast US. The emmision from such plants disturbs the ecosystem which ultimately result in acid rain.
*Forest ecosystem is not soo good in Northeastern parts of US.*
*Also the population in the northeast part is higher than southwestern region .So the vechiles(cars) are present in large number in the northeast parts of US. The exhausts from cars leads to the formation of nitrogen oxides in the air which results in acid rain.
*Also from the burning of fossil fuels like by energy/power producing industries releases sulfur in the air which ultimately combines with oxygen leads to the formation of SO2.
*Acid rain is mainly caused in urban region but by the propagation of winds ,it can be carried to the rural parts as well.By this act,the forests andd lakes which is present in the countryside also gets harmed and there by disturbing our ecological balance.
