Despite having a large amount of biodiversity, why is the Amazon Rainforest facing the risk of desertification?
Desertification occurs where land is turned into desert. Followings are the impacts of desertification 1. Soil erosion 2. Mud crack 3. Loss of plants 4. Drying rivers and wells 5. Growth of desert 6. Flash floods. In this case (Amazon rainforests): The natural soil in the Amazon rainforests is not well fertile but it is enriched by the vegetable covers made up of leaves and branches of plants that falls from the plants. Deforestation reduces the enrichments. In deforestation zone the rain fall directly on ground surface it may causing erosion therefore the washing and leaching process are large amounts. This is one of the cause of the soil become less fertile in the Amazon rainforests region. As well as deforestation is barriers of the recycling of essential neurient which is important for good growth of the plants such as nitrogen. All above are process and factors are responsible for the Amazon rainforests facing risk of desertification.
