The common good is very much an ongoing goal more than a concrete reality, particularly as the conditions for fulfillment are constantly changing amid struggles for power. In other words, the common good is a journey more than a destination, an ongoing praxis (practice and reflection). Please give concrete examples of where society could benefit from an emphasis on the common good, and how focusing on the good of all might be better than prevailing ways of seeing the world.
In my opinion, the world is constantly thriving on abstract thoughts such as equality, unity and brotherhood but in reality there is a vast difference in terms of distribution of power, resources and wealth. Earlier, it was survival of the fittest, then it was survival of the strongest and now it’s survival of the most cunning. Throughout history, people were exploited in the name of race, color and religion. Only when people live in harmony, they would be able to live in peace. For example, the racial tension is still one of the talking points in the society. Economical inequality is another issue in the society and class difference is yet another issue in the world. US society is a metropolitan society where people of different race, class and cultures. If the majority suppresses the minority ignoring their rights, it would cause the minority people to react violently which will affect the entire society and the peaceful living of the majority even. So, the betterment and the welfare of everyone will ensure the safety and common good of people.
