The California Aqueduct transports water from northern California to southern California. For most of its length, it is an open concrete trapezoidal channel. Consider a segment with a bottom width of 40 ft, a longitudinal slope of 0.004% (So = 0.00004) and 1.5 H:1V sideslopes (z = 1.5). Assume n = 0.013.
(a) Determine the discharge (in cfs and mgd) if the normal depth is 18 ft.
(b) Determine the normal depth if the design discharge is 6400 mgd.
Actually in the part (b) of the question, we have to proceed with trial and error method and we have to check it whether correct or not..Which was done by me.
Trial and error means we have to assume a value of normal depth and calculate discharge... Continue this till you reach a given discharge value..
