The privacy officer is an individual who is responsible for the handling and management of the protected health care information in the long term care and rehabilitation facility. His role is to manage, access, and control the health care information which is more confidential as per the rules and regulations. He is also responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing the compatibility of the health care information, policies and procedures with the health care rules and regulations. As a newly hired privacy officer of the multi setting long term care and rehabilitation facility, the individual will have to face some regulatory issues which can impact his performance. Some of such regulatory issues are discussed below.
Being a newly hired privacy officer of a long term care and rehabilitation center the main regulatory issue faced by the individual is the geo political and the emerging regulations issue. When new regulations emerge in the health care sector the privacy officer is responsible for monitoring and updating the changes. While performing this function he will have to face the regulatory issues in accessing the already exiting information, and updating the new one. Being a new officer it is also challenging for him to monitor the rules and regulation changes. If he fails to notice the changes in the health care regulations then it can impact the organization.
Technological development is another issue which a newly hired privacy officer can face. Getting savvy with the information system existing in the organization is an issue for the privacy officers as they stand ahead of other and other depends on them for the information security. The technological crimes which are existing in the modern market are a major regulatory threat for the privacy officers. They are answerable for the technological hacking, information theft etc. Hence it can be challenging for the new privacy officer.
The compliance culture can be other issue. The employees compliance with the regulatory setting of the organization is importance for the performance of the privacy officer. The employees lower commitment level can be challenging. When they breach the information security norms it can impact the privacy officer. Hence better coordination should be established first.
