Explain HP bend witb diagram. Briefly explain the use.

Solutions

Expert Solution

HP bend is hairpin bend is also known as hair pin turn , is a bend in a road having inner acute angle which allows for oncoming vehicles to turn 1800 to continue the road. Hairpin bend are formed when there is a up or down a steep slope in a route so that one can travel with more comfortness. These are formed in a zig zag pattern. Hp bend generally allows safer ascents and descents of mountainious terrain, makes sharpened roads and reduces speed limits of the vehicles. examples are as:

Nammakal road to kolli hills (70 HP bend), ponmudi hills in kerala to hill top(22 HP bend), zig zag hill in DORSET England and much more.

USES:-

1) It reduces the grade or steepness of the roads.

2) These are also used in the race tracks so as to reduce the speed of the vehicle after travel from a long straight road.

3) It is always located in the hill side which provides the maximum stability and minimum slope.

4) It must be safe from the point of view of landslides and ground water.

5) HB bend provided with long arms and farther spacing which reduces constuction problems .

6) HBbend reduces the expensive protective works.
