comparision:
Both of them involve copying of DNA in the cell. Basically DNA replication involves making copies of DNA and transcription is the process of conversion of DNA into RNA. They involve binding complementary DNA into copies of DNA or RNA. An error in both the cases will result in changes in the gene structure. In DNA replication two daughter strands having half of the original DNA double helix strand is produced.
Differences:
Transcription results in protein translation whereas replication occurs results in cell division. Replication occurs in the S phase of the cell and transcription occurs in G1 and G2 phases of the cell.Replication involves copying an entire genome whereas transcription involves copying only certain gene sequences.Enzymes required for replication are DNA helicase and DNA polymerase and that for transcription are RNA polymerase and transcriptase. In case of replication RNA primer is required to start the replication where as in transcription no such enzymes are required.
