what is the most important information about scurbber (with out reaction) type packed pad . in point
Packed bed scrubber
Packed bed scrubbers are primarily gas absorbers that remove acids, soluble gasses, chemicals, fumes, and odours and are the most effective scrubbers for treating gas streams with gaseous pollutants. It generally contains one or more layers of packing material and thus increases the gas-liquid contacts. Packing materials include dumped packing, stacked packing, or structured packing. Some commonly known dumped packings are Rasching rings, Berl saddle, and Intalox saddles. Gas streams enter in the bottom of the column and flow upward in countercurrent direction through the packing. Scrubbing liquid is distributed uniformly to the packing material. Then cleaned gas passes through a mist eliminator while the liquid containing dust falls to the bottom by gravity.
Some important information about packed bed scrubbers
1. The pressure drop is relatively low across the scrubber.
2. The packing used is changeable and type of packing can be changed to improve the design by improving mass transfer without purchasing new equipment.
3. Packed bed scrubber use Fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) packings. This permits tower to operate in highly corrosive atmospheres.
4. These towers have Relatively low capital cost.
5. It requires relatively small space and has the ability to collect particulate matters as well as gases.
6. These type of towers are capable of achieving relatively high mass-transfer efficiencies. Up to 99 % efficiencies can be achieved in many applications.
7. Low scrubbing liquid flow rates required.
8. It has thick continuous reinforced corners and well-designed packing support plates that ensure negligible or low maintenance costs.
