What is the most important think you learned about Green Buildings, Sprawl, and Sustainability Initiatives from the textbook?

1.) The most important thing that I learned about Green Buildings is its multitudinal benefits that it provides to the whole planet ecosystem. Green buildings are effective initiative taken in the direction of preserving the environment by concerned world leaders, citizens, architect, engineers. It has environmental benefits as it reduces water wastage, preserves biodiversity, helps in the reducing emission of gases like carbon dioxide which are the heat trapper and improves air quality. It is not just limited to environmental benefits but it has economical and health benefits as well. Economical benefits in the way as the green buildings are constructed from sustainable materials that help in having lower operating costs, lower maintenance cost etc. Health benefits in the way since it improves air and water quality which directly or indirectly helps in having better work performance, liveability index.

2.) The most important thing about Sprawl is that Sprawl actually refers to spread of human activities in wider and dispersed spaces occupying more, land and space per person to provide homes, workplaces, shopping locations etc. Sprawl is usually referred in terms of urban, suburban and rural sprawl. It happens due to poorly development of one area lead to shifting of people to other places. So sprawling with smart growth is a good blend of development as it focusses on spatial pattern and utilization of resources in the most optimal and sustainable way.

3.) The most important thing about sustainability initiatives is that sustainability means development without damaging the environment and in the way without affecting the needs of future generation. Sustainability initiatives basically emphasize on 3 pillars - 3 P's - Profit, Planet and People. Sustainability initiatives are being with utmost priority seeing the current environment impact. These initiatives are called sustainable development goals and is the target set by our world leader on a global platform having 17 goals and 169 targets that needs to be achieved by 2030. These goals are not only limited to environment but overall dimensions that is the demand and need of current world whether its poverty, hunger, economic development, Marine development, climate change etc.
