Negotiating one-on-one is hard and team negotiating can be even
harder and more frustrating. What can you do to ensure the benefits
of a team and avoid the problems?
Yes, team negotiating can be even harder and more frustrating than one-on-one negotiating. But as a team leader, I need to form a negotiating strategy and share the same with my team so that they can understand the interests and objectives of the organization. I will treat the team in a way that will bring loyalty and cohesiveness. Team can work well when there exists the strength of positive relations among the members. It is the look out of a team leader to judge every team member and try to create an atmosphere of unity and integrity among the team. This will keep team members in a happy mood and multiply their energy to work and achieve the goal of the organization.
As a leader, I will give importance to team members first, provide them all benefits that will encourage them to raise their productivity in group. As a team leader, I will take the accountability of my team's failures and successes. Instead of blaming and scolding certain members about their failure I will inspire them to do better and take failure as a guide to go ahead. Before conducting a negotiation process, I need to prepare myself along with my team members. Team negotiation ensure alignment of interests, strategy and the mode of procedure, only when all the participants will prepare themselves for the negotiation. As a team leader, I will assign roles to all members who are going to take part in the negotiation process and allow certain members to take the responsibility for each roles. This will motivate team members to perform their job in a more productive way and avoid confusions and conflicts while making team members more responsible and dedicated towards their job.
Bringing cohesiveness in a team, assigning them roles, making team members accountable for their task and emphasizing their performance raise their confidence level, making them happy and engaged in their work. This will avoid many possible group related problems.
