What are the steps in the Juvenile Justice process?
Firstly, the juvenile would be brought to the intake officer who would decide whether the juvenile has committed a crime or not. If the officer has enough proof that the juvenile has committed that crime, the officer would detain the juvenile or else would release the juvenile. However, if the officer decides to detain the juvenile, the officer should produce the juvenile to the court within 72 hours. The judge then may decide to have an informal hearing, where the juvenile may admit the crime and accept the punishment given by the judge or adjudicatory hearing where the judge would determine the guilt of the juvenile with the evidences presented. The judge may then look for additional evidences that might influence the judgement and would give the judgement. In the final stage, the juvenile would have the option of appealing against the sentence.
