Knowledge and perception about juvenile delinquents, are largely derivated from media. The media and the newspapers have an obsession with crime and a large percentage of news is covered by crime.The potential problems are listed below :

  • Media may present the issues so dramatically that may create panic among people about juvenile justice.
  • If large amounts of local crime news are released in the media, that may increase fear among a large number of public, (Brillon, 1987; Sheley and Ashkins, 1981).
  • Research evidence shows that there is a link between media and fear of crime. It can create panic among them.
  • Many stories are covered by media are basically false. It may create moral panics.
  • Public lacks information about the daily operations of juvenile justice.

Social development : Changes occur in this stage are-

  • They likely to enter in a romantic relationship.
  • They develop a sense of ego-identity.
  • They may suffer from role diffusion, i.e , "who am I?"
