* How does the MEAT model compare with the process model, Which is more effective and why?
example
The M.E.A.T method stands for Mitigate , Eliminate , Accept, and Transfer Risk. Our book list four ways to respond to risk which are classified as mitigating, avoiding, transferring, or retaining. This is very similar to the MEAT method. Both methods are designed for you to take the safest risk. I think they better method depends on the person.
Comparision of M.E.A.T model with process model is as given below:
M.E.A.T. model | Process model |
This model lists out the different ways of dealing with different risks. | This model lists out the steps in dealing with a particular risk. |
The different ways of dealing are Mitigate, Eliminate, Accept or Transfer Risk. | The different steps are Risk identification, Analysis, Mitigation planning, Plan implementation and Tracking. |
It focusses on the overall risk and gives alternative approaches to deal with it. | It focusses on the details and gives a framework to mitigate or reduce it. |
This model can be applied to any risk and necessary action can be taken. | This process may not be applicable at every situation since some inherent risks may not be possible to be eliminated. |
Both the models are extremely useful, however effectiveness depends on factors such as nature of the risk, environmental factors, demands of the situation and the person dealing with the risk. Any one of them can be more effective depending on the factors listed above.
