Polyamorous relationships:
Discuss what you think are the strengths of these relationships and what you think are the weaknesses. Discuss this topic from a sociological point of view. Use your sociological imagination to think about and discuss whether or not this could become a social problem if everyone practiced it.
Polyamorous relationship is a concept where people have more than one partner and everyone knows about the relationship. This is about living life in full without any guilty feeling of cheating and boring. All the other animals and birds have multiple partners at a given time except human beings. Most of the people in this world live because of social pressure and legal bonding.
The strengths of this type of relationship is that one could have more partners to share their emotions and interests. They could have sex with multiple partners without any guilty feeling. They have their ground rules that define each one’s roles thus making sure that they all behave in their limits. There is no possessiveness because these relationships are free practice.
The limitations would be rising the children and spending quality time with all the partners or sharing time with all the partners will be very difficult. Although it is said that there won’t be any room for possessiveness, people are not Gods, so there is all the possibilities for possessiveness.
If everyone starts practicing this, it would be more chaos. The chance of getting sexually transmitted diseases will be more. The children will not get quality time from their parents. Although it is good to have more people as partners, it wouldn’t be a right practice as it would bring more harm than benefit.
