1. Grounded Theory is a qualitative research. This type of research seeks to find data that has not been found and it does not base its analysis on the research already done to prove the made research wrong. It requires an unbiased approach. It involves research on complex subjects to get the data and then do analysis to come to a conclusion. Like other researches, it too has advantages and disadvantages.
Disadvantages of Grounded Theory:
1) It is complex
2) It is time-consuming
3) The data is huge
4) Exhaustive process is involved
Advantages of Grounded Theory:
1) Scope for learning
2) Nurtures creativity
3) The approach tends to be more systematic
4) The analysis and outcome is rich in information and knowledge
2. Narrative inquiry is a qualitative research where the subject narrates an entire happening in the form of start, middle and end. This sort of research is not easy to conclude with as there can always be variation in narratives. However it does tell about the topic in an elaborate way.
Disadvantages of Narrative inquiry:
1) Biasness: because one who is narrating may have an inclination towards or against what he or she is telling about
2) Unclear Data: narration means elaboration which tends to miss on data but more on storylines
3) Mistake in comprehending: The researcher may listen to the recorded tape again and again but there are chances that he/she may not be able to comprehend it in a proper way.
Advantages of Narrative inquiry:
1) Information and knowledge: The narrative can add more connecting data from either surrounding or past to give ample to research upon.
2) The data is huge
3) An easier way to understand the subject and topic for research.
4) Intriguiging and interesting
