1)What are the advantages and drawbacks of universities using social media to communicate with stakeholders -- students, potential students, alumni, donors, etc
There are many benefits that universities have using social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Messenger, Skype, etc. is that they can have an easier and faster solution, many universities contact these people for different reasons such as offer jobs, scholarships, ask questions, etc. They can advertise their university ads through this social media and in turn, can get good admissions, they can be in touch with every student and alumni notifying them with current events and activities that are going to be held in the university. In turn students and other people also get benefited because they can get in touch with the admin team through sending a mail and getting their query resolved, the main disadvantage over social media is the other person may not use it effectively so one cannot guarantee that their query resolved through email or another source in such case phone call or direct meeting is recommended.
2) Do you think there are more or fewer communication barriers when using social media?
I think there are fewer barriers using social media. each communication media has a different barrier.
Social media is a tool to communicate with others, friends, family etc, there are many types of a communication channel through which one can be connected, but each of them has different barriers. Over-dependence on the social media leads to harm interpersonal relations and human touch, the interpretation of the communication through social and electronic media is different to that of direct interaction if the person talks positive note on some issue the other person understands it as negative because he only focuses on the sound rather than his expressions his attitude of speaking, miscommunications could happen though. Through social media, rumors can also be spread immediately which sometimes damage their name and fame.
5) What have been your experiences -- both positive and negative -- with social media. From your experiences, what guidelines could you suggest for managers and organizations
There are many experiences through social media that I faced;
Positive:
Negatives
I got addicted to social media so in organization managers should always make their environment friendly so that one should not deviate their mind to stick on to social media.
3)What should managers do to be sure they communicate effectively when using social media?
The steps include;
> they should be patient, interactive, friendly, they acknowledge questions and concern they have to know how to react and on what issue to react. They should be open to discuss ideas and give an appropriate solution to it satisfying other.
> They should be creative and detail-oriented, he has to think differently dreaming up campaigns to be conducted differing from others. inaddition he has to be multitasking and try to conduct some nonprofit activities which in turn improve organization values.
> he has to have a good experience in this media he has to continually read the current affairs, blogs, and technology from time to time and react accordingly and try to educate the other people.
> He has to promote his product or organization regularly by campaigning, boot camps or by ads, and try to communicate with the co- employees and make them involve in this.
