Concept of
Productivity
Productivity in
simple terms can be defined as the relationship between the input
factors (including material, labor and capital) and output or
finished goods or services. This relationship provides how
efficiently the inputs are used in order to achieve the desired
output of an organization. A higher productivity can be ensured
only when inputs are properly allocated and optimally utilized with
minimum cost and the production is achieved with quality output and
maximum profit.
Important
Factors Affecting Productivity
- Management:
Management of the organization is the most crucial factor that
affects the productivity. Since all the important decisions are
taken by the management they should be efficient enough in managing
the activities of the organization. Only a skillful and competent
management system can bring fruitful and productive output for a
company.
- Government:
Government also plays a vital role in affecting the productivity of
an organization. A company should follow all the provisions and
regulations laid by the government. This will result in effective
relation between the government and the company which will directly
impact the efficiency and productivity of the company.
- Unions: Trade
unions play a very significant role in affecting productivity.
Since labors or workers are very important factors in increasing
productivity these unions are formed in order to protect their
rights. If the union is satisfied with the management it will
affect the productivity positively whereas if the management terms
and conditions are not up to their wish they may oppose those terms
(denying performing their jobs) and that will again affect the
productivity in the negative way.
- Employees:
Employees are very precious for every organization. The human
resource management is the key for improving productivity. Thus, it
becomes necessary that right men are selected for right jobs and
their respective roles are clearly defined. A satisfied and engaged
employee will perform in the most effective manner therefore
employees should be motivated and rewarded well for their jobs.
Efficient employees will ensure smooth flow of work and higher
productivity.
