9. Development of new technology results in changes in the process and the layout. Comment on the above statement. Give examples if you can from your own observations.
Yes, we can say that the assumption in the above statement is a correct one. Technology acts as a huge factor when we consider how the layout of a manufacturing plan is organized. Based on their ability to maximize the production function as well as reduce the wastage depends upon how and what they use in their process. This, in turn, allows us to understand how we can create a system around the present technology to make the best possible use out of it. We can, therefore, say that in order for the company to make use of better technology and a much more efficient structure, we need to make sure that the current implementation is tailored to be used against the given technology. Thus, a development in new technology also carries forward the change in the structure and the process of the layout that the company currently has to accommodate it.
For eg, when an auto manufacturer starts using self-made parts instead of outsourced part, made internally by the company, the implication in the system lies upon the change in structure to accommodate the machines, the structure to create the required parts which were once sourced.
