WHY WASH YOUR
HANDS?
SPECIFIC PURPOSE-
One of the most effective measures to prevent or control this
transmission of infectious diseases is washing hands or handing
washing practice.
As all of us know that one of the
reasons of infections transmission is contaminated hands or
ineffective hand washing. Routine hand washing shows that the
infectious diseases' spread can be controlled. So the speech can be
structured into four basic arguments-
- The importance of hand washing
- Proper hand washing techniques
- Short-term alternatives to hand washing
- Promoting good hand hygiene
1) Importance of handwashing- It is one of the
important techniques in reducing the microorganisms' spread that
are on people's hands which can significantly decrease the chances
of the transmission of microorganisms from one place to
another.
- It is particularly important practice among healthcare workers
and young children it can prevent various common infections such as
flu.
- Nowadays, looking at the present situation, Covid-19 infection
makes us realize the importance of washing hands as it has been
shown that regularly washing hands can prevent the transmission of
the infection.
- Moreover, various diseases such as diarrhoea, common cold, flu
, and intestinal disorders can be caused due to poor hand
hygiene.
2) Effective hand washing technique-
It has been revealed that hands should be washed using
antiseptic or liquid soap rubbing together the hands for 10 to 15
seconds under running water which can be later dried with the help
of a paper towel.
- The technique may sound very simple
but it is very important to do it correctly.
- Gode (2008) conducted an experiment
in which nurses were asked to wash their hands with their eyes
shut. Dye was used to investigate whether the parts of the hand
have received contact and if the parts did not receive contact this
can be a sign of ineffective hand washing
3) Short-term alternative to handwashing-
- In addition to antiseptic products,
people used to wash their hands, it also involves the use of
alcohol based hand sanitizers it has been shown that alcohol is an
effective alternative when proper handwashing facility is not
available
- The use of sanitizers has grown
dramatically during the outbreak of the pandemic of newly found
viruses that is covid-19 which has evidence of being spread from
one person to another researches have proved that using sanitizers
and hand washing techniques correctly may help us to find this
Battle against coronavirus.
3) Promoting good hand hygiene-
- To promote good hand hygiene,
researches have revealed various barriers to correct way of
handwashing such as lack of time and heavy workload.
- The thing that can be done to avoid
the spread of the virus includes promoting good hand hygiene which
can prevent the transmission of infection, however, these times
made us realise the importance of handwashing not only among the
health workers but also among the common people.
Conclusion- Hand
washing has been very important to maintain our personal hygiene
but now it is one of the important measures to control the spread
of infection to avoid the contact with the body fluids of another
person. The use of gloves does not mean that one should not wash
hands. It is recommended that people should wash their hands
regularly to fight the virus.
