This is all one question, but it is broken into several parts.
What is the difference between Raman scattering and IR absorption? Explain it using an energy diagram.
What is a difference between the Stokes Raman and the Anti-Stokes Raman scattering?
What does “Raman Shift” mean?
What is the major compound that comprises the top coating layer of an Excedrin tablet?
Draw the chemical structures of the three APIs contained in an Excedrin tablet.
1.Raman Scattering is caused by the scattering of light by vibrating molecules whereas IR absorption is the absorption of light by the vibrating molecules.
In case of raman scatteringscattering, the scattered light is observed at right angle to the direction of incident light whereas in the case of IR absorption, it is measured in the same direction as that of the incident light.
2. Antistokes raman scattering - it may happen that a molecule present in its excited state, say E1, after excitation loses enough energy to reach the ground state i.e. E0. Such a state is said to be antistoke raman scattering.
