GI Disorder -> Lower GI Disorder -> Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
IBS is a disorder that presents itself with abdominal discomfort, pain along with diarrhea, constipation, both in an alternating pattern. Many times the sensory perception and sometimes the motility is abnormal in the case of IBS. IBS cannot be detected on imaging. It requires a physicians experience along with some path lab tests to diagnose IBS.
Signs and Symptoms: Pain, discomfort, bloating, cramping, nausea, diarrhea and constipation or both
Tests and Diagnosis: Colon examination, Blood tests for Celiac diseases, Lactose breath test
Treatment:
To treat the symptoms: Pain: Antispasmodics can help, Constipation: a soluble fiber supplement, Diarrhea: Loperamide, Gas and Bloating: Changing diet and including probiotics
I found MANAGE YOUR HEALTH tab to be the most interesting. From a layman's point of view, the tabs give an exhaustive yet understandable outlook towards the GI-related issues. Diet and Tips are also very informative and something that can be followed.
Alternative treatment: Herbal therapy, acupuncture, movement therapy and meditation
Outcomes:
The effectiveness of various agents differs. It is important to carefully choose a medication regime. Treatment of IBS also requires lifestyle changes, so it's important to follow a healthy way of life.
