People: Good government matters are often all about relationships — just like business success. The people involved in your government business plan and their ties to elected officials are real keys to success.
Policy: Principle statements or a policy platform are a real key to
success. Another important thing is to choose your fight wisely. It
is of critical importance to know that not all issues are of equal
importance and to decide when and where to engage.
Process: Process is closely connected to policy. It is crucial how
you take positions, collect information (pros & cons) and share
the political positions of the Chamber. The organization that
performs its homework is important and does not "shoot the hip"
simply by being a rubber stamp for your leaders ' highest
segment.
It is also important to communicate the outcomes of your advocacy
work, but sadly most organizations still need significant
improvement. "Close the chain" and report results to your members
(even though things did not go your way).
