Discussion about: Nuclear Energy
There are different public opinions about using nuclear energy in producing electrical energy. Nuclear reactors are associated with harmful nuclear radiation and there is a problem of the storage of the nuclear waste. Discuss this issue from a scientific point of view giving your stand and explain why.
Please make sure to type it.
Even though nuclear power is believed to be environment friendly, the problems associated with nuclear reactors are melt down. Melt down refers to uncontrolled heating of nuclear reactor and this leads to melting of reactor core. this metl down is due to defect in cooling water circult for cooling the reactor. Due to this one of the core elements reach their melting point. This subsequently leads to emission of radiation into environment. The radiation exposed to environment lead to radiation sicknees which refer to exposure of significant quantity of radition for short period of time. This leads to skirn burns and vomitings.
the water used for cooing the reactor is taken by near by river and when the water is returned, it is at elevated temperature and this leads to killing of aquatic life. If the return water gets contaminated with the radioactive material due to leakage, the radioatie material can enter the food chain.
There will be some radioactive material in the unspent fuel rods used in nuclear reactions. These materials continue to dissipate radiation for years together.
The transportation of radioactive waste poses risk to people and the environment.
The unused fuel rods when cooled on site under water, it can contaminte the ground water in the surrounding areas.
Having talked about the above, there were only three major disasters reported due to nuclear reactors. So people are extracareful when some thing is hazardous.
