Describe how learners’ level of anxiety is likely to affect their learning and performance, being sure to include the concepts of facilitating anxiety and debilitating anxiety in your discussion. Then describe three strategies you might use to keep learners’ anxiety at a productive level.
Level of anxiety affects learning and performance. The learning and performance depends on the level of anxiety.
Facilitating anxiety :- It is optimal level of anxiety that helps you to get adequately motivated and which does not hinder ones performance and test preparation.
It is found if individual has facilitating anxiety that is when he has optimal anxiety that makes him work towards his goal with care and concern, studies and experiments have also proved that individuals high on facilitating anxiety scored higher grades.
On the other hand individuals high on debilitating anxiety had lower grades.
Debilitating anxiety:- Extreme level of anxiety that is bad for individual and it also hampers the test taking skills and preparation of an individual.
So an individual can perform the best when he has optimal level of anxiety. Strategies to keep learner's anxiety at productive level are
1. To have positive attitude towards exams or tests. One should not think of the outcome as going to be bad before he or she perform,this negative attitude of having bad outcome will develop debilitating anxiety and which will hamper the performance,instaed with positive attitude one can be highly motivated and will perform to the fullest extent.
2. Should be well prepared to face any exams, enough practice,rehaersals and preperatory exams help individual master many aspects like time management,organisation, practice writting or speaking etc which helps in building up confidence and decresing anxiety.
3. Cognitive appraisal strategies can be tough for development of positive views.
4. Better coping and problem solving skills are to mastered so as to be prepared for the worst. And can solve the problem without being anxious.
