One of the emerging garment industry from past decade is held by Bangladesh. It is the second largest readymade garment exporter just behind China. Country’s 85% export is from readymade garment and apparel sector. One of the major driving force of the economy it engages around 20 million people in the country. The major contribution in Bangladesh GDP is contributed by garment sector and it is planning a 50 billion dollar industry by 2021. One of the biggest strength that Bangladesh has, its availability of cheap labor in comparison to its rivalries. Besides Bangladesh enjoys duty free access to many countries because it is considered as least developing country. Above all Bangladesh major Globalization and development is brought by garment industry. Bangladesh ranked 6th in top apparel exporting industry contributing just 2.8% globally.
Economic & working Condition: Bangladesh is still crippled by poor infrastructure, slow implementation of economic reforms, insufficient power supplies. Bangladesh is witnessing one of the fastest growing labor force with very minimum wages as per industry standards and comparison to neighboring countries. This has result in migration of labor force to Middle East countries. The trade unions are very strong in Bangladesh although 3.5 percent is unionized. Child labor is one of the major issues with 6 million of child labor that are aged between 5-14 years are not enrolled in School.
