Climate change is a hot topic in the news a lot lately. Do you really understand what it is? Is it really the big threat scientists say it is? A group of Florida students think it is! Listen to coverage about action they are taking by clicking the link below. Research the difference between mitigation and adaptation. Reply to this thread by posting one thing you can do to combat climate change and one thing the state of Florida can do. Tell us if your proposals are mitigation or adaptation and then tell us why your proposal would help.

Climate change is the change in the general weather pattern of the climate of the earth. Climate change is not a singular phenomenon. It is the effect of several other interconnected phenomenons like global warming, deforestation. environmental pollution. the phenomenons which are being mentioned are collectively changing the normal pattern of the earth's weather system like deforestation leads to desertification or decreasing rainfall whereas global warming gives rise to the mean temperature.

Surely it is a big threat to the human population. We have seen the death tolls by the Australian and amazon bushfires. Climate change will affect human most. As the scientist predict the climate change will be followed by extreme weather conditions such as severe drought or floods or situations like bush fires and flash floods that will cause the human life and will affect the economic pers[ective also causing the damage of both human and economic resource. Mean sea level rising is one of the dangerous effects of climate change. As sea level will continue to rise many oceanic countries like the Maldives and many shoreline cities can be extinct.

Mitigation is the process of prevention or we can say it is the process of reducing the effect of something. Adaptation is the process by which organisms get habituated to his living environment, helping him to survive in the natural; habitat where it is living.

One thing that I can do to combat climate change is - I can reduce the use of fossil fuels.

One thing that Florida can do is - to increase the use of renewable sources of products such as energy resources.

I think both the suggestions I have given are the mitigations, not the adaptation. We can mitigate climate change if we use renewable sources that will decrease the environmental pollution and the greenhouse emission which is one of the big reasons for climate change. Using renewable sources will also cut the rate of deforestation and issues like plastic pollution can also be solved. I have not suggested for adaptation because adaptation is a larges concept. We seriously do not know if we will be able to adapt to the climate. Considering if we will able to adapt it will cause thousands of human life and a lot of time, but the outcome is totally uncertain in this scenario. So it is better to do what we can do in the present to save our future towards a sustainable world by mitigating the effect of this environmental change.
