How is the stomach secretion being regulated?
Stomach secretion is regulated by neural, hormonal and other pathways when we take the food there is stimulation of parasympathetic nervous system which causes release of neurotransmitter acetylcholine this acts as stimulant for gastric secretion. There are G cells which are located at the pyloric antrum of the stomach they release a peptide hormone gastrin when we eat food gastrin acts as stimulant in the secretion of gastric acid from the parietal cells of the stomach. The other pathway through which stomach secretion is regulated through histamine it is responsible for the release of gastric acid to release the acid the histamine couples with receptors in pariteal cells of stomach. This leads to acid secretion.Somatostatin which is growth hormone inhibiting hormone is released when there is low pH this somatostatin inhibits gastrin release and also inhibits gastic acid secretion from the parietal cells of stomach.
