  1. Describe the similarities between pain and the other somatic sensations. Describe the differences.
  2. Explain the mechanism of sensory transduction in temperature-sensing neurons.
  3. What are the sensory implications of the different crossover points of the anterolateral and dorsal column ascending pathways in patients with injuries that damage half of the spinal cord at a given level?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Pain and somatic sensation arise on the skin by touching or pain. The tendons as well as joint leaves the pain which is commonly called a somatic sensation. These are responsible to manage the sensory pathway and the parietal cortex. Also of touching pain and temperature pain is seen in one direction which is responsible to be displayed in any direction. In the modality of somatic sensation where free nerve ending are observed with the fibers involves the pain sensation from the nociceptors of the spinal cord. The distressing feeling is observed due to the damaging of stimuli.
Similarities between pain and other somatic sensations in different kinds of factors including no specific stimulation. The difference that possesses is that the interaction of other sensory pathways and the destruction of the parietal cortex is observed in somatic sensations. In pain sensation for the central area is observed which is distributed to different areas of the body. The sensory application of different crossover involves the lateral system with considerations and applications. The spinal cord is traveled through the columns that travel in the control system and effect of injury to the general the impairment, temperature, and pain sensation. These are the ascending pathway which connects the periphery of the brain.
