The enterprise application I've choosen for this research is
"Zoom Video Conferencing" : Zoom is the leader in modern enterprise
video communications, with an easy, reliable cloud platform for
video and audio conferencing, chat, and webinars.
Zoom is the product of Zoom Video Communications, a software
company, headquatered in San Jose, California, United States. Zoom
Video Communications, Inc. is an American technology company
headquartered in San Jose, California. It provides videotelephony
and online chat services through a cloud-based peer-to-peer
software platform and is employed for teleconferencing,
telecommuting, distance education, and social relations.
It was founded by Eric Yuan on 11th April 2011. Eric Yuan is also
the Chairmen, President and CEO of this company.
Background
As mentioned earlier, Zoom was founded by Eric Yuan, a former
corporate vice president for Cisco Webex. He left Cisco in April
2011 with 40 engineers to start a new company, originally named
Saasbee, Inc. The company had trouble finding investors because
many of us thought the videotelephony market was already saturated.
In June 2011, the corporate raised $3 million of capital from WebEx
founder Subrah Iyar, former Cisco SVP and General Counsel Dan
Scheinman, and venture capitalists Matt Ocko, TSVC, and Bill
Tai.
In May 2012, the corporate changed its name to Zoom, influenced by
Thacher Hurd's children's book Zoom City. In September 2012, Zoom
launched a beta version that would host conferences with up to
fifteen video participants. In November 2012, the corporate signed
Stanford University as its first customer. The service was launched
in January 2013 after the company raised a $6 million Series A
round from Qualcomm Ventures, Yahoo! founder Jerry Yang, WebEx
founder Subrah Iyar, and former Cisco SVP and General Counsel Dan
Scheinman. Zoom launched version 1.0 of the program allowing the
utmost number of participants per conference to be 25. By the top
of its first month, Zoom had 400,000 users and by May 2013 it had 1
million users.
n July 2013, Zoom established partnerships with B2B collaboration
software providers, like Redbooth (then Teambox), and also created
a program named Works with Zoom, which established partnerships
with Logitech, Vaddio, and InFocus. In September 2013, the company
raised $6.5 million in a Series B round from Horizon Ventures, and
existing investors. At that time, it had 3 million users. By June
2014, Zoom had 10 million users.
In April 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the app's CEO, Eric
Yuan, announced Zoom's daily users have ballooned to more than 200
million.
Main Purpose
The main purpose of Zoom video conferencing is to enable
face-to-face communication between two or more people in different
locations. It is a well-liked alternative to phone conferencing for
businesses and provides individual users with a cheap means of
communication with distant friends and family.
Zoom being a web-based video conferencing tool with a local,
desktop client and a mobile app that allows users to meet online,
with or without video. Zoom users can like better to record
sessions, collaborate on projects, and share or annotate on one
another's screens, all with one easy-to-use platform. That's what
make this application very useful, and moreover this apllication is
available for free. It provides a way of connecting with people
around the globe virtually. Work from home and study from home all
terms like them are possible because of these video conferencing
platforms.
There are several other business benefits to Zoom video
conferencing. Zoom Video conferencing can facilitate meetings and
even long-term group work between remote employees or companies
that would otherwise have been too far-removed to make regular
travel cost-effective. It also enables users to share files,
programs and other data necessary to whatever group project is
being worked on. The face-to-face communication helps business
contacts and associates to make a way of community, even between
parties who may never physically meet.
The secret to Zoom’s popularity lies within the platform’s simple
use. Setting up a Zoom call requires three things: a Zoom account,
a webcam and access to the web . Zoom encourages users to download
the desktop app, although calls are often accessed via a browser
with limited in-call features. Mobile users got to download the
mobile version on their phone to participate during a call. The
platform is compatible with Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and
Android.
Hope this helps you. Happy Learning.
