Some people feel that controls in small businesses (typically owner operated with less than 20 employees) are dysfunctional, in that they create resentment and loss of morale without producing much benefit. Employees generally feel that the owner lacks trust in them, the control activities impose additional work, and/or that control procedures result in inconvenient and inefficient work practices. Control procedures implemented in small businesses are generally ineffective and only belong (and only effective) in large organisations where management is separated from the operational activities of the organisation.

Q: Discuss several factors affecting (negatively or positively) the achievement of systems development objectives.

Systems development refers to the process of implementing any new system or any program which includes it's planning, designing, implementing, maintaining and analysis.

It is basically concerned with the acquiring systems and also it's development phases and its various steps being involved.

The objectives of systems development include:

  • To ensure that the high quality system being delivered so that there can be achieved consistency and uniformity in work processes.
  • To have a proper control over the management and it's functioning so that all other processes in the organization go smooth.
  • To improve and look after the productivity of the system
  • To check if it is providing perfect customisation for its particular customers.

Factors affecting the achievements of systems development objectives are:

  • Dissatisfaction of employees because of the reason they believe that the employer has trust issues with them, which demotivates and down the morale of the employees.
  • Because of less number of employees, the control span is concentrated because of which it is not able to be implemented properly.
  • One of the factor is mismanagement in the organization or business that leads to failure of any system being implemented.
  • Proper maintaining the system and proper control of management whether with less employees or more but in a managed way leads to the efficient working in the business being implemented.

Thus, it can be said that in any organization, its very important to implement a developed system and use it such way that it adds value to the business. Insure that the system is working in a direction where it leads to profits for the organization. And it is very important to make the system manager because the basic functioning of the business depends on this system development.
