Question 14.
Explain the following
1.Monitor role
2.Unity of command
3. Primary activities
4. Leadership
5. The micro -environemnt
1. As per Mintzberg Ten Management Roles, one is the Monitor. Monitor along with Disseminator and Spokesperson is an informational category role. In this role, you continually seek out data related to your business and industry, looking for relevant developments in the environment. You also monitor the team, in relation to both their productivity and their well-being. Thus, monitoring is everything that goes on inside the organization, gathering information about both internal and external circumstances and communicating it to others.
2. Unity of Command means accepting orders and command only from
one supervisor.
Fayol stated that when two superiors impose their authority over
the same individual or department, uneasiness creeps in. The twin
command is a constant source of conflict.
This principle states that a person should get directions from a
sole superior so that he does not get disconcerted and can
discharge his responsibilities effectively.
3. The primary activities in a value chain are inbound logistics (Value is computed here when a business gets the inputs and stores or spreads them), operations (processing of elements to a consumable form), outbound logistics (final product for distribution), marketing and sales(making customers cognizant of products and services in the market with after service), and service as given by Michael Porter. The primary activities are used to provide a business with a competitive advantage in any one of the five actions, so it has an edge in the industry in which it functions. The purpose of the five activities is to generate value that surpasses the cost of carrying that activity, therefore making a higher profit.
4. Leadership: Leadership can be defined as the social and group task where one team or person influences others to motivate them to support the entire group, including themselves, to achieve some bigger purpose or a common mutually decided objective.
Once the objectives are broadly defined, we require management. They are the group of people that bring the coordination of people and activities to plan, organize, staff direct and accomplish desired objectives.
5.The microenvironment: Everything that encompasses within the company i.e. employees, capital, machinery, policies, and procedures, physical resources etc. They interact with external environment to generate a business function.
