Explain the four measurement scales in research, and the scale you have selected for the survey/interview respondents.
The four measurement scales in research are explained below:
Nominal: The nominal scale differentiates in subjects according to the names, categories and other qualitative characteristics of subjects. Construction of classification and classification of items are the two important elements of nominal scale.
Ordinal: Under ordinal scale the data is sorted on the basis of order to rank such as 1st, 2nd, 3rd and so on. However, compare to nominal scale ordinal scale does not allow differentiation between subjects.
Interval: Under interval scale there is two defined points which are separated into intervals. The data is generally allowed differentiation between the ranges.
Ratio: A meaningful zero value is possessed under the ratio scale. The ascertain ratio of a particular item is measured against the standard value to assess the actual value of an item.
For the survey/ interview respondents the ratio scale shall be used to ascertain the views expressed by them in the ratios. For example the percentage of people agreed with a particular view as against the number of people disagreed with the view.
