Operations is an organisational function concerned with production, logistics, production planning and control etc. Basically Operations is concerned with conversion of raw materials into finished products. Management of Operations department is termed as Operation Management.

Operation Management aims at decresing the cycle time of assembly line to reduce the ultimate delivery time to customers. It also manages the inflow and outflow of raw materials and products. It maintains a database of current and potential suppliers to gain most out of them.

Operation Management aims at reducing the defects on the line to reduce the rework which are the result of defects. It also aims at reducing the inventory to reduce the inventory carrying cost and holding cost. It also manages the resource allocation in the manufacturing department

Thus Operation Management has to be of highest productivity in order to keep the day to day activities of the company running
