what does an abnormal creatinine and urea?
Creatinine is waster product by muscle due to breakdown of substance creatine. Creatinine is the waster product from the blood, which release in the urine. Abnormal level is indication the poor clearance of creatinine by kidney. High level of creatinine is the marker of CKD and kidney is not functioning well. Elevate level in male indicate prostate cancer and in infant indicate bacteremia.
Low level may indicate
- Lower muscle mass due to muscle dystrophy
- Severe liver disease
- Very low in protein in diet.
- Pregnancy may have low level of creatinine.
Blood urea nitrogen is also a marker of kidney function. Urea is nitrogenous waste formed in the liver. Increase or abnormal level of urea indicate
1. Kidney disease, kidney failure or kidney damage
2. Decrease blood flow to kidney due to any heart disease
3. Kidney stones that obstruct the flow to kidney.
4. Increase breakdown of protein or high protein in the diet.
5. Dehydration
Low level is a indication of severe liver disease, malnutrition or overhydrated.
