A flat organizational structure refers to a structure that has few or no levels of management between the management of the organization and the staff level employees.

Employees who work in flat organizational structures are less supervised while also being more involved in the organization's decision making process. This type of a structure removes the excess layers of management in an organization and also improves the coordination and speed of communication between the management and the employees or the employees themselves. Most of the businesses that adopt a flat organizational structure are small businesses and this is because they usually have few employees and therefore less of a need for a hierarchy of management. An example of a company that has adopted this structure is Valve which is a video game company. Employees at Valve have no specific role that they are required to accomplish, instead all the employees team up together and accomplish all the tasks required including the managers of the company. There is very little level of management between the staff level employee and the management. In the recent years, the company has placed an increasing emphasis on the decision to go completely boss-less and adopt a completely flat structure.
In my opinion, the organizational structure that will be around in the long-term is a flat organizational structure. More and more organizations are adopting this structure in order to increase productivity, unity and equality at the workplace and in the future, more companies will dump hierarchical structures and adopt a flat structure. Many employees love working in flat organizational structures and this means that as time goes by organizations that have adopted a flat organizational structure will attract the best employees and become more productive which is the reason why this will be around in the long-term. In terms of the organizational structure i would love to work for, i would love to work in an organization that has adopted a flat organizational structure, this s because here is efficiency in the coordination of employees in these organizations due to the few levels involved. Employees become more creative, innovative and also productive while working under this structure and the reason why in my opinion, it is the best.
