Negative effect: Preventing scope creep is the tendency of software projects to grow beyond their original bounds. Avoiding or preventing a scope creep will increase the chance of delivering the project on time and on budget, hence better Returns on Investment and Internal Rate of Returns. That’s the reason; Project Managers split a massive project into smaller components. It can occur naturally and often in a project due to reasons like Manager or Client doesn’t know how to define their requirements or let’s say how to manage cost, could be any inventory handling/ project cost/ transportation etc.

It can be prevented or avoided or managed by:

• Be vigilant from the start till end of project
• Understand client's requirement well enough
• Understand the project requirements thoroughly to begin any action
• Include a process for changing scope or have contingency plans
• Many project management soft wares are available for use
