Which Hypotheses Tests use a Chi-squared distribution?

Which Hypothesis Tests use an F distribution?

What is the rule for sample size calculations?

What is the rule regarding the appropriate signs to be used in the null and alternative hypotheses?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Hypothesis test which use a chi chisquare distribution are

1) Goodness of fit test

2) Test for indpendence of two population

3) Test for Homogenity

Hypothesis test which use a F distribution are

1) Equality of two varaiance

2) Multiple comparison anova test

3) Some of the regression problems

Rule of sample size calculation -

1) A larger sample increases the statistical power.

2) If the underlying population have higher variation one would need larger sample.

3) for a given sample size , power is maximized when the sample is equally split between treatment and control group.

rule regarding the appropriate signs to be used in the null and alternative hypotheses

1) the null hypothesis is always a neutral statement about population parameter. here we conside there is no relatioonship in variables or our conventional estimate regarding pop parameter is correct.

we generelly use sign of equality(=) here.

eg

Ho : pop mean = 30

2)

for Alternative hypothesis we us signs less than(<) , greater than(>) and inequality( ). here we give staement regarding our new population parameter for which we are doing hypothesis test.
