1.) Define Memory 2.) Define each (Capacity and duration/time): a. sensory memory b. short-term memory c. long-term memory 3.) Describe the process of information going through these three memory stages. |
Answer. 1
Information capturing and storing is an amazing process. It contains many processes that are completed within few secknds to hours.
Memory is consider as the power of brains which is responsible for storing and retrieving information from one stage to another. It is the sense of collecting information from sense organs, convert it and recall information whenever needed. There are 3 types of memory-Sensory, Short term memory and Long term Memory.
Answer. 2
Each of 3 type of memories have different capacities and timing.
Sensory memory is a ultra short term memory which remembers few information for just a second. It has ultra short capacity used in observing objects. When we see any object before it disappears is an example of sensory memory.
Short-term Memory is also called working memory. It holds only very less items ranging between about 7 items. Its duration is about 20 seconds.Remembering phone number by hearing it for first time is an example of short term memory.
Long-term memory is known as storage memory which last for many years after storage of information. It comprises of information that we learn previously in childhood and middle childhood. For example Alphabet learning, Maths tables.Long-term memory has vast storage and last till death.
Answer.3
There are 3 stages involve in processing of information. The first stage involves encoding of indormation. When we see any object, it begin to process in the form of visual, acoustic and semantic.
Second stage is storage in which encoded information begin to store in short term memory and transferred to long-term memory in the form of electrical impulse.
Third stage is retrieval of information in which gathered information comes out according to situation and need.
